Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Manchester City on Sunday has moved them to the top of the Premier League table. The Gunners are now five points clear of second place Chelsea, who have a game in hand.

Arsenal won their second major game against title rivals this season, following beating Chelsea in their opener.
Arsenal reinforced their championship credentials with a 5-0 victory against Manchester City at Meadow Park, putting them atop the Women’s Super League table.
In the 10th minute, Vivianne Miedema scored the first goal, before Kim Little doubled the advantage with a stunning shot.
Before Little’s second from the spot, Katie McCabe nailed a booming third.
Arsenal went to the top of the table in dramatic manner as Leah Williamson sealed the carnage with a stoppage-time header.
They go ahead of Tottenham on goal difference, with both teams having collected a maximum nine points, while City remain in ninth place after suffering their worst ever loss as a professional club.
Last season’s runners-up have already lost two of their first three games of the season, as well as being knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, but manager Gareth Taylor believes it is too early to write them off.
“It’s far too early,” he added. It’s not ideal that we’ve lost our past two league games, but I believe it’s much too soon. It’s a small league with just 22 games, but we’ll see how it goes.
“We’ll have to rely on other teams, and we’ll have to score points ourselves. It’s pointless to look at other teams right now. We need to take a look at ourselves.”
Arsenal rattled City’s defense from the first whistle, pressing in numbers and pushing the visitors into a series of defensive mistakes after following up their opening-day triumph over Chelsea with a straightforward success at Reading.
And Arsenal manager Jonas Eidevall’s bold tactics paid off when Beth Mead pounced on an under-hit backpass from Alanna Kennedy, beating onrushing City goalkeeper Karima Taieb to the ball before finding Miedema, who drilled an accurate drive into the open net.
City, on the other hand, did not heed that caution and found themselves two goals behind when Miedema played in Little on the outside of the area. Despite being mobbed by blue shirts, the Scot found space and fired an unstoppable shot beyond Taieb.
In the face of Arsenal’s persistent pressing, the away side struggled to establish a footing, with Ellen White and Lauren Hemp among those kept quiet by the home side’s defense.
While City attempted to pick up the pace after the break, Arsenal continued to dominate, with McCabe putting the game beyond the visitors on the hour mark.
Tobin Heath, a forward from the United States, made her Arsenal debut.
The Republic of Ireland skipper grabbed a long ball and evaded Georgia Stanway and Kennedy before blasting a left-footed drive into the top of the goal.
After being spotted by Vicky Losada, Ellen White came closest to getting one back for City, but Gareth Taylor’s side failed to put Arsenal under continuous pressure, and their effort was effectively ended when Alex Greenwood fouled Little inside the box.
Little stepped up and smashed her penalty into the top corner, and the Meadow Park crowd erupted again a few minutes later when Tobin Heath, a two-time World Cup champion, came in for her debut.
Arsenal refused to let up and were rewarded when Leah Williamson scored the game’s only goal to cap off a five-star effort and give Arsenal their first victory against City in four tries.
After defeating Chelsea, Arsenal’s style of victory further adds to the feeling that they will be difficult to stop in their bid to regain the championship from the Blues. Arsenal outplayed City from start to end.
