The NFL combine is a two-day event held in February. It’s where players go to showcase their skills and get chosen by teams who want them on their roster. The annual process is the most important part of any football player’s career, yet it rarely has anything to do with actual performance on the field. Experts are calling for an overhaul that puts more weight on performance instead of just overall size and strength numbers., but it may be too late given how established this process already is
The “2022 nfl combine results” is the year that the NFL will hold its next NFL Combine. The combine will be held in February of 2022, and will be televised on ESPN.
More than 300 of the best prospects are in Indianapolis for the annual NFL scouting combine, which continues through Monday, as preparations for the 2022 NFL draft ramp up.
At Lucas Oil Stadium, players will be tested medically and put through on-field exercises. Then it’s on to pre-draft interviews with club staff and the media, which will take place April 28-30.
A lot of trade discussion happens during the combine (would Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson be traded this offseason?) As new coaches and general managers settle into their roles as clubs prepare for the start of the 2022 league year and free agency on March 16, behind-the-scenes negotiations take place.
With pass rushers, offensive linemen, and wide receivers dominating first-round draft forecasts, we asked NFL Nation writers to break down where their club stands as the combine heats up. They discuss salary-cap flexibility, important pending free agents, draft needs, and what a successful summer for each club might entail. Jordan Reid, an ESPN draft expert, looks at potential prospects that may suit each club. This is what they had to say about it.

If the Bills are able to improve depth on the defensive side of the ball, both in the secondary and up front, and offer quarterback Josh Allen with more downfield options, the offseason will be a success. Other considerations include inking a long-term contract with wide receiver Stefon Diggs, which would keep Allen’s favorite target on the roster for years to come, and determining the future of linebacker Tremaine Edmunds, who has a large cap charge ($12.7 million) in 2022. Alaina Getzenberg is a writer who lives in New York City.
Kyler Gordon, CB, Washington, is a prospect to keep an eye on at the combine.
In the absence of Tre’Davious White, Gordon might be the No. 2 cornerback. He ticks a lot of the qualities the Bills have been looking for in the past, and he might be available late in the first round. Reid’s comment

If the Ravens drastically improve in the trenches, it will be a great summer. Officials with the Ravens stressed the need of strengthening the offensive line in order to better protect Lamar Jackson. If the Texans get a sufficient return for quarterback Deshaun Watson in a trade, it will be a successful summer. Although there is still a lot of confusion around Watson’s legal predicament, it seems that he will never play for Houston again. The Texans already have more draft money than they have in a long time, but obtaining a good return for Watson would be very beneficial to their reconstruction. Sarah Barshop is a writer.

If the Raiders make a decision on Derek Carr sooner rather than later, it will be a great offseason. With Carr nearing the last year of his contract, the Raiders must either let him play out his contract and guarantee the $19.8 million he’s owed in 2022, offer him a $35 million-per-season extension, or sell him for a slew of draft selections (including at least one first rounder). Are there a couple of quarterbacks that are familiar with McDaniels’ system? Try Jimmy Garoppolo and Tom Brady, who just retired. Gulp. Gutierrez, Paul
Devonte Wyatt, IDL, Georgia, is a prospect to keep an eye on during the combine.

If the Chargers can sign any of these free agents, draft well, and improve their run defense, this summer will be a success. In a Week 16 defeat to Houston, they were without Jones, and it showed. Jones supplied the needed muscle in the center in the 11 games he played. Along with assistance against the run (the Chargers gave up over 140 yards per game on the ground), they need cornerback reinforcements, Williams to be re-signed, and a quality receiving option at tight end for quarterback Justin Herbert. The Cowboys will have a good summer if they continue to select well and add quality free agents. The Cowboys have said that they would not shop at the upper end of the market, and they had excellent success with one-year contracts in 2021. They need to spend at the defensive end position since Barnett is a free agent and Brandon Graham, 33, is coming off an Achilles rupture. The defensive backfield is in the same boat, particularly because three starters from last year’s team are pending free agents. Tim McManus, Ph.D.

The Commanders will have had a good offseason if: They select a quarterback who is an obvious improvement over Taylor Heinicke and their long-term solution at quarterback. The Bears will have a successful summer if they can rebuild the offensive line (three of their five starters are due to enter free agency), acquire Justin Fields some additional targets to pass to, and rebuild the defensive line interior (Hicks and Nichols’ contracts are set to expire). The Bears have cash on hand and 25 unrestricted free agents to choose from. If Aaron Rodgers returns, the offseason will be a success. It’ll have to be rebuilt if that doesn’t happen. In order to remain competitive in 2022, if Rodgers returns, the Packers will have to mortgage future salary-cap years. If Rodgers does not return, the Packers’ first priority this summer will be to set up their salary cap for future success. Demovsky, Rob
Logan Hall, DL, Houston, is a prospect to keep an eye on during the combine.
The Packers have acquired dynamic edge rushers known as tweeners in prior rounds and free agency signings. Hall fits the description because he can contribute on numerous levels as an inside threat or on the perimeter. Reid’s comment
Kevin O’Connell, who is in his first season as a coach.
Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who is in his first season as GM.

Everything begins with Kirk Cousins, so whether the quarterback remains and finishes out the last year of his deal (at a $45 million cap charge), works out an extension, or gets moved will influence how active Minnesota can be in free agency. The Vikings’ defense, which was rated 31st, has to be retooled once again. The position of edge rusher and cornerback are high on the priority list. The offensive line’s interior is likewise a focus point. Depending on what happens with Cousins, the Vikings may be able to choose a quarterback in April. Courtney Cronin (Courtney Cronin)
At the combine, keep an eye on the following prospects: Edge, Michigan’s David Ojabo
Since 2005, the Vikings haven’t taken a defensive end in the first two rounds (Erasmus James). With Ed Donatell’s defense built on excellent edge play, Ojabo’s potential on the opposite side of Danielle Hunter is interesting. Reid’s comment

The Falcons will have a great summer if they can accomplish what they did last year and discover free agents like Cordarrelle Patterson who can surpass their contracts. Atlanta is still dealing with a cap problem in 2022, but finding those sorts of players, as well as selecting impact players with their first four draft selections, might pave the way for a successful season. Michael Rothstein is a writer and producer.
Travon Walker, Edge, Georgia, is a prospect to keep an eye on at the combine.
The Falcons, who recorded the fewest sacks in the league last season with 18, are sure to be on the lookout for pass rushers. In Dean Pees’ 3-4 design, Walker may be just what the squad needs. Reid’s comment
Matt Rhule is in his third season as a coach.

The Panthers will have a successful summer if they can locate a long-term quarterback through trade, free agency, or the draft, add depth and larger players to the defensive front, enhance middle linebacker, and re-sign cornerbacks Jackson and Gilmore. David Newton is an author.
Charles Cross, OT, Mississippi State, is a prospect to keep an eye on during the combine.
Cross is a ready-made pass protector who needs fine-tuning in the running game, and the Panthers should choose a quarterback or offensive lineman at No. 6. For Carolina, Cross would be an obvious improvement at left tackle. Reid’s comment
Dennis Allen, who is in his first season as a coach.
Mickey Loomis, who is starting his 21st season as GM.
Space for salary caps: $40.5 million more than the expected cap

Quarterback, wide receiver, defensive line, and offensive line are the positions with the most needs.
QB Jameis Winston, LT Terron Armstead, S Marcus Williams, LB Kwon Alexander, DB P.J. Williams, WR Tre’Quan Smith, and QB Trevor Siemian are among the notable free agents.
If the Saints can locate the right quarterback at the appropriate price and surround him with enough great receivers and offensive linemen, the offseason will be a success. Because the Saints can transfer more than $100 million into future years, the salary cap isn’t as onerous as it seems. It’s even feasible that they’ll make a blockbuster deal to go to the top of the quarterback market. They’re more than likely to reunite with a free agent like Winston or Teddy Bridgewater. However, they may be outbid for Armstead. Triplett, Mike
Matt Corral, QB, Ole Miss, is a prospect to keep an eye on at the combine.
If the Saints don’t acquire a veteran quarterback in the draft, combining Corral, Michael Thomas, and Alvin Kamara makes sense. His quick-twitch and fast-processing skills provide a quarterback for the club to develop around. This will be the first time the teams have seen Corral since the bowl season. Reid’s comment
Bruce Arians is in his fourth season as a head coach.
Jason Licht is the general manager, and he is in his seventh season.

The Buccaneers will have a great offseason if they can find a quarterback and re-sign Godwin, Davis, Jensen, Fournette, and Whitehead. Suh and Gholston are also on the list. The quarterback, who will arrive through free agency or trade, will have a huge impact on free agency choices, particularly Godwin’s. — Jenna Laine is a model and actress.
At the combine, keep an eye on the following prospects: Kaiir Elam is a CB from Florida.
Elam has an opportunity to make his presence known in Indianapolis and reclaim a spot in the top 40. He fits Todd Bowles’ defensive system nicely as a long and tough press corner. Reid’s comment

The Cardinals will have a successful summer if they can become younger and better rather than older and better, as they did last year, and add playmakers — plural. Arizona has to start putting up a long-term winning squad right now. That means selecting playmakers and signing players on their second deal rather than in their 30s. Josh Weinfuss (@JoshWeinfuss)
Myjai Sanders, Edge, Cincinnati, is a prospect to keep an eye on at the combine.
The Cardinals have proved in the last two years that they are willing to choose defensive players. Sanders fits their mold, but he has to work on a few aspects of his game. Reid’s comment

If the Rams can meet roster needs despite limited financial room and draft capital, the summer will be a success. With one season left on his current contract, quarterback Matthew Stafford is ready for a contract extension, which may bring some immediate salary-cap relief. However, with many important players from their Super Bowl run about to hit free agency, including Beckham, Miller, Williams, Corbett, and Allen, the Rams will have to be careful about who they pay and how they use their late-round draft selections. Lindsey Thiry (Lindsey Thiry)
Cole Strange, IOL, UT Chattanooga, is a prospect to keep an eye on at the combine.
The Rams will have to wait a long time for their first round choice. Strange makes a lot of sense as a possible replacement for Allen, who is set to become a free agency. His initial experience at center during the Senior Bowl helped raise his profile as a zone scheme-only prospect. Reid’s comment
Kyle Shanahan is in his sixth season as a head coach.
John Lynch is the general manager, and he is in his sixth season.

If the 49ers can find a decent deal for QB Jimmy Garoppolo, release DE Dee Ford (with a post-June 1 designation) and utilize that money to maintain several of their own important free agents while also acquiring at least one cornerback capable of contributing right away, it will be a great summer. Everything else should be targeted at making quarterback Trey Lance’s transition to the starting job as easy as possible. Nick Wagoner is a writer.
Coby Bryant, Cincinnati CB, is a prospect to keep an eye on at the combine.
Bryant has experience in both man and zone coverage, something the 49ers need in the secondary. His size and ball abilities make him a perfect match for their offense. Reid’s comment
Pete Carroll is in his 13th season as a head coach.
GM: John Schneider, who is beginning his 13th season with the team.

The Seahawks will have a successful offseason if they can reduce the skill gap with the Super Bowl champion Rams. With no first-round selection, it won’t be simple, but the Seahawks will have enough financial space to sign free agents. They need to re-sign Diggs (or receive a huge return in a tag-and-trade), make smart selections with UFAs like Penny and Brown, and acquire at least one difference-maker on either side of the ball. They also need Carroll’s restructured coaching staff to address the structural flaws that led to their worst season in almost a decade. Brady Henderson’s quote
Darian Kinnard, offensive lineman from Kentucky, is a prospect to keep an eye on during the combine.
Kinnard is a bruiser who often exhibits his physicality, and Seattle needs to continue to bolster its offensive line. With views on whether he belongs on the offensive line as a guard or tackle, he could play either position. Reid’s comment
